Inspired by one of the Four Noble Truths in Buddhism, "No One Can Escape Suffering" is a 2'x2' acrylic ink painting on wood boxed canvas. I painted it especially for this Saturday's group show "Works of Wisdom" at Thumbprint Gallery in La Jolla. Check it out in person if you can.

Laguna was so pretty this day, I often catch myself daydreaming about it.

TNT is tonight!

Come see WAVVES and Mike Maxwell's interactive project, the Live Free Wall. The Live Free wall is a project Mike is doing for mcasd.org for TNT. The Wall will has been painted over and over for 2 weeks and shot for a time lapse film that will be screened at the opening. The Wall will also be installed at the museum.

I got word of the new Shepard Fairey mural in Hillcrest last night and headed over before the last bit of daylight slipped away. I made the light and lucked out to find Shep still there working on the final touches. He was kind enough to let me take a few photos.

Dance Hard

Took a quick trip to SF/OAK over the weekend for the Hot Chip show at the Fox Theatre...here's a little photo re-cap for ya.

Here is Greer on the plane ride up exhibiting a tranquil and rare departure from her usual Tourettes.

That wasn't working out for me, so I made her my drinking partner in crime.

We passed out that night pretty early at the Hotel Mac so that we could get a ride with Charles to the city in the morning.

Zack hitchhiked to the city to meet us.

We all met up here at Magnolia on Haight for some drinks and snacks. Greer and I shared a pickle.

SF homes are beautiful.

Next, we hit up the Exploratorium park.

We kept referring to this as "the band shell."

We stopped to smell the flowers.

And take a few hot new profile pics.

That night was the Hot Chip show...they played with The XX who apparently went on at 8:15pm and so we just missed them. Who plays that early?? ...details got a bit fuzzy, Zack was stopped by the po po on the Bart and things got weird...

The next day was our departure so we stopped into Berkeley to enjoy the ridiculously beautiful weather on our way out. This is Amoeba records (it was record store day).

Spent and I got friendship bracelets from a real hippie.

Hyena

I've been hearing a lot of buzz around town about the band Hyena and not just because I live next door to Capricorn Studios and see the guys, Coop and Strat, on every late night trip to 7-11 for Orangina and animal crackers. These guys are on heavy rotation with local DJ's and better yet, playing live all around San Diego. When you listen to these guys before seeing them live you think A., this is like really good, and B., I bet they are the DJ type performers with their laptops and headphones. As it turns out, THEY ARE REALLY GOOD and they play REAL instruments LIVE..crazy. So what am I getting at? Go see them live at Voyeur March 4th and at The Saloon March 8th...and dance like the guy in the front did at Casbah last Friday.

I am finally giving in and blogging again. It seems like it's been forever. Memory cards are piling up and my Lightroom library has been overflowing with fun photo projects. I just uploaded a small batch of photos from my trip to Point Richmond over the weekend here. I was on assignment shooting the newly renovated Hotel Mac but was able to get in a few touristy pics when my roomie Greer and I went exploring.

This tunnel is awesome.

I've been all over the place lately. Workin like a daig, taking fun trips to LA with the girls and then to SF for Sezio..I even got a new camera! Here are a few shots from my new baby.

I recently had the pleasure of painting a body cast for Keep A Breast Foundation. I am especially excited because the cast that I bonded with for the last several days is of Mark from That Morning Show on E!. KAB cast the hosts to be painted and auctioned off for a special fundraiser in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. It's really rad that Mark participated to raise awareness since men can get breast cancer too. Tune in for more info and to see all of the painted casts live on air THURSDAY morning from 6am-9am on E!

I met up with the band Trouble In The Wind over the weekend to take a few photos. After listening to their songs on their myspace page a few times, I got a feel for their music and somehow felt Captain Keno's had just the seedy atmosphere necessary to shoot in.

The guys are all super nice and didn't seem to mind my creepiness in shooting while they chatted.

We tried out the arcade..

A couple drinks deep, we headed out to play on the tracks.

Fun night! I saw them again a couple nights later at their CD release party at The Royal Dive in Oceanside...

I got there a little before ten and the Minor Keys were playin so I shot some pool.

Things have been super busy lately. Here's a brief re-cap of the madness..

Bowerbirds played an awesome show at The Casbah last Wednesday.

Our good buddy Joel P. West opened for them. If you haven't heard his music by now, get on it.

That Friday, I got a robocop leg installed for my torn mcl/meniscus.
Sorry doc, there is no way in hell I am wearing this thing for real. But damn, it is pretty sexy.

Later that evening, Zack and I hit a laid back little spot called the Tin Can in Bankers Hill for the Writer / John Meeks show. (I was without a camera..doh)

I spent Saturday in Ocean Beach and slept until 2 p.m. on Sunday. That's where my day began collecting supplies with Zack at my favorite store The Home Depot.

Why were we collecting 4x4's, rope, and a concrete block?

That brings us somewhat up to date for this week. I'm really excited for our first ever Artist Exchange Program at the Luce loft downtown. Morgan Blair has finally arrived in California and will be installing works all week for this Friday and Saturday's "Brain Glamor". It's going to rule.

I went up to Frisco with the boys this last weekend to check out Mike Maxwell's opening at The Shooting Gallery. I have been a fan of Mike's work since I saw his stuff shortly after moving to San Diego (6ish years ago?) It was an awesome show and if you ever get a chance to see his stuff up close and personal, I highly recommend it!

While cruising around Haight, I stopped into RVCA and drooled over this Kinsey piece. "It's pretty much everything I'm into right now," I remember telling Zack. Nerd alert.

This weekend Sezio partnered with The Glue Network at this year's 5th Annual Switchfoot Bro-Am for an 8x8 mural raffle extravaganza all benefiting StandUp for Kids. Typically, I would be the one documenting such an event but with me painting and the slew of Sezians ~~hiding in their air conditioned homes~~ out of town, I was only able to take a few pics with my phone. Despite my gnarly sunburn and dehydration, I had a lot of fun painting with amazing artist friends Brent Sandor, Andrew Heine, and Tocayo!

..or Frands..but that feels funny. Anyway, I recently took a trip to Eric of Demasiado's purple house and took some creative album photos of antiques and leaves. I also played in the attic before I got too claustrophobic and had to come down. The new album sounds epic!

Another fun visit was to Black Box Studios to see bandlies Pretty Too Bad rehearse. These kids have skills and the studio is weird in a good way.

Fishsticks n Drips

Trader Joe's has become synonymous with cheap alcohol ever since the 2 buck chuck phenomenon aka Charles Shaw wine. Well, if you haven't caught on to their new cheap as sin booze that's actually been brewing long before dear-to-our-hearts PBR, this is your introduction. It costs about 3 bucks for a six pack and the alcohol content is 6.2% hollerrr. You may remember it from Brian's Dirty Thirty when Meeks and Mr. Hawthorne enjoyed their Simpler Times Lager in complimenting neon cozies.

..that's all I'm gonna say about that besides the fact that I truly enjoyed Simpler Times last night while painting this fish and chillin with Ed. Side effects include passing out with half a text on your phone.

It's been another busy week..day job, night job, sezio, friendlies, photos, paints.. but I'm not complaining, I like hustlin.

Donna is my mannequin. She got a new tattoo last week just in time for Thread.

I thought she would appreciate it when she wears a deep-v. Now I kinda want one.

I settled for this bat baby tattoo on my arm instead. It lasted a couple of days and really spiced up my Monday at the office. Thanks Stacy for sharing those at Thread!

Set up/clean up is not so much my favorite.

Julie came over last night while I was painting and tripped out on the big collabo piece above my bed. I just realized that I haven't taken any mobile photos of it yet. Thanks to Spent (Brent) my painting doesn't suck anymore and I'm growing quite attached to it.

I drove up to Fullerton to see my sis graduate this last weekend. We had to wait around forever in between the hoards of people trafficking from grad ceremony to the next so in an attempt to entertain my nephew I let him play with my polaroid cam. He got a sweet shot of me sitting in a crowd.

Zack recently told me, as a friend, that I was on my smart phone way too much for it to be healthy. Not having such a phone before, and now the ~~proud~~ owner of a blackberry storm, I can’t help but look up EVERYTHING I come across while I am out. In an attempt to curb my google addiction, I am taking notes on the not so urgent ponderings. Here are this weekend’s:

#1. Bumper sticker spotted in the hippy haven of Encinitas: “Honk if you don’t exist”

What I guessed it might mean: something to do with being green and not leaving a “footprint”

What it actually means after googling: Inside Buddhist joke regarding awareness of the permanent “self” and achieving enlightenment. Therefore if you do not exist you would have achieved enlightenment. The catch is, if you do honk as the bumper sticker says to, you would be in existence and not really be enlightened… Damn hippies.

#2. Man walking the PCH in full mariachi attire complete with corona box hat. I need this.

I thought I would find this on ebay no prob... No such luck. I did however find similar white trash flare on the net:

If anyone has any leads or feels creative enough to make me a corona or pacifico one, you know what to do..my half birthday is rapidly approaching.

The Buffalo Club gathered at the Waterfront last night for weekly wings n grilled cheeses.

Before the front, I rode my bike to Julie's new house and met Joey the cat. We played with a laser.

This guy helped Zack and I shoot new shirts freshly printed for MOPA over the weekend.
